GOODBYE TO THE BEAUTIFUL CLAUDIA CARDINALE

Claudia Cardinale, the last of the great Italian stars of the golden years of cinema, has died at the age of 87 in Nemours, near Paris. She starred in memorable films directed by the greatest directors, from Luchino Visconti, for whom she played the character of Angelica - her dance with Alain Delon was immortal - to Federico Fellini and Sergio Leone.

Born in Tunis on 15 April 1938, Claudia Cardinale is one of the most famous actresses of Italian cinema: she has won three David di Donatello and three Nastri d'argento, as well as the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement awarded to her at the Venice Film Festival in 1993 and the David, also for Lifetime Achievement, in 1997. Among her most famous films, alongside the leading actor Marcello Mastroianni, are "Il bell'Antonio" by Mauro Bolognini, "La ragazza con la valigia" by Valerio Zurlini, "8 1/2" by Federico Fellini and especially "Il Gattopardo" by Luchino Visconti, "La ragazza di Bube" by Luigi Comencini, "La pelle" by Liliana Cavani. She was also Pauline Bonaparte in "Austerlitz", and Claretta Petacci in "Claretta" by Pasquale Squitieri. Her character as Jill McBain in Sergio Leone's masterpiece "C'era una volta il West" is unforgettable.

The Los Angeles Times Magazine included Claudia as one of the 50 most beautiful women in film history!
